I've never had the chance to compare it side by side against a tube based power amp of any sort, but I can tell you this, the ART sounds way better than the solid state Crate power amp I was using before. I've never had any problems out of the amp, and in all these situations, I've never needed to turn it up over 5. Now I'm playing opposite a Marshall half stack with a drummer who subscribes to the John Bohnam "hit the f**ker" school of drumming. I've used it with a Carvin Legacy 4x12 and Genz-Benz 2x12 in bands where I was the only guitarist, opposite a Mesa-Boogie combo, and one of three VS. Which really suited what I was looking for since I wanted my miked cab, pre-amp line outs to board/connected to a daw scenarios sound as close to each other as possible. It billed itself as a totally clean, no added color, just ramp up the volume to drive speakers unit. When I bought mine it was being sold by my local music store as a studio power amp for driving monitors and such, not a guitar amp. As I understand it the difference between the 1 and 2 is 100W vs 200W. I've used an ART SLA1 in my rig for about 12 years. Plus, it's easier to travel and tour when you ask for a common type of cabinet for the show. ![]() I'm 4x12 guy and I need to have it on the stage. I know there is Atomic, but it's no match for me. It would be nice to have a quite transparent tube amp, but that's sort of impossible since tubes are changing the sound in certain way. That's something I need to get familiar with, thanks for pointing that out. I (I think logically) thought that it would sound strange with both - sim and real - power amps being on. One thing I didn't think of before is using power amp sections from the presets along with the real power section on the power amp. ART is something completely new to me and I'm even a little confused with the linking the SLA2 to the cab since I've never used banana connectorsĪnyway, I think that the real bottom line here is whether to go with as much transparent power amp I can find (SS type of power amp) or with something that will probably make the sound more alike to what I've experienced since the day one of my playing (which is a tube feeling), yet it will color the actual sound coming out from the AXE. As I mentioned before there is this little thought in my head telling me to go with Fryette, because basically it's a one of the finest power amps there and I've been in a gas about it for a couple of years now (even though for the last few years I've owned heads only). So I'd like to ask you guys for your ideas, reviews and other useful advices. Simply, Poland isn't a nice place to do that, because shops here lack of that kind of equipment. I feel under my skin that Fryette is the ace here, however SLA-2 seems to be really, really attractive alternative.Īnother issue is that I can't actually go to the music store and test both of them. On the other hand, there is SLA-2 that is simply lighter and can give me the power sections from the Fractal's amps. On the one hand, there is this lovely all tube and shining Fryette 2902 with awesome headroom and punch, yet it's heavy. I was thinking that it would be perfect match to Axe Fx. At first I was thinking about Fryette 2902 power amp as it's something I've admired for couple of years now. I've been all into tubes and entering the Fractal world is a huge step for me. I'm waiting for my Ultra now and I've been thinking about a proper power amp since I'm going to use my 4x12 cab on stage.
